Alien Menace by Jim Hickman

In The Alien Menace, Jim Hickman establishes Ufology as a legitimate field of science. He outlines guidelines for “conducting a scientific investigation of UFO and UFO-related phenomena.” He develops an elaborate terminology, adapted from the J. Hynek UFO Classification System, to lend scientific validity to sightings. These terms include, “IFO,” “Nocturnal Lights,” as well as “CE-I” through “CE-III,” degrees of close encounters. He also prescribes a detailed methodology for conducting field research.
